Stevie Ray Vaughan: “Boss of the Blooze”
Anyone questioning if the dear Lord is a blooze fan, would have to look no further than Stevie Ray. There remains no other explanation for someone to play with the intensity that Stevie owned. He played as close to the heart and soul as you could possibly get, closing his eyes and letting the magic happen. Songs poured out as his guitar cried with passion way beyond anyone’s natural ability. Much like Hendrix before him, he developed a sound that was his alone and perhaps no one will ever be able to replicate. On stage, his celestial performance was mesmerizing with purity and the range of his stormy forceful style to the most serene guitar solos proved unforgettable. With a simple three-piece band, he filled every void with guitar licks and sang every song with the utmost passion. |

Bobby “Blue” Bland: “Mister Blooze”
If forced to choose my favorite “Blooze” style, this would be my guy. Not sure when, where or how he entered into my blooze world, but blooze has never been the same since. If I had but one blooze album, it would be Bobby “Blue” Bland. Way before my time and way beyond his, he left behind a style and voice that will transcend blooze forever. Any if not every serious “Blooze” artist has a little Bland blooze in their veins. |
Curtis Salgado: The Original “Blooze Brother”
John Belushi stumbled onto his act in Eugene Oregon while filming Animal House and fanatically made himself part of the nightly crowd studying his moves, his music, his style and anything else he could steal or Curtis was willing to teach him about the blooze. . The inspiration eventually became the movie, composed of many unknown songs, hand picked by Curtis himself. Curtis can flat sing the blooze, or any other style of music he sets his heart to. His incredible voice mysteriously remains somewhat undiscovered, at least for the time being, because anyone this talented should be a household name. He gives life to songs everyone else threw away…but when he sings, God he sings with powerful perfection, and when he blows his harp, its good old fashion grippin’ blooze! |
Tab Benoit: The “Bloozy Cajun”
Pure devotion and emotional verve. Tab Benoit delivers blooze with energetic elegance, an extraordinary intense Cajun style. His performances leave absolutely nothing behind, always reaching down, deep down and delivering just a little more than he did the last time. He plays clean, crisp and to the edge, consistently challenging himself, pushing the boundaries and its really good stuff. He is an absolute master with the blooze guitar and is blessed with an extremely rare, raspy, bloozy Cajun voice that emotionally transports the blooze straight to your soul. |
BB King: “King of the Blooze”
BB King made Blooze kool, and he paved the road for every blooze artist since. He was the backbone of the Blooze world, to which we all owe a debt of gratitude for his continuous contributions. Essentially performing to his dying day, it became clearly obvious that playing the blooze was all that BB King really cared about. Throughout the years, he stitched together classic lyrics telling the story in a way only a true blooze-man could do. And he tied it altogether, laying down his own staccato style of licks, which today is unmistakably recognized as the iconic BB King style. As an eerie side note: Robbie, unbeknownst to her at the time, ironically started this portrait the same day he died. |
